Tony Award Winner James Corden Is Hosting the 70th Annual Tony Awards

If ever an actor, writer, producer, comedian, singer and television host has been on one, it’s James Corden, and he has been on a nice long ride. He’s been the host of CBS’s The Late Show for over a year and has garnered significant attention for his viral videos, especially Carpool Karaoke, garnering over 410 million views and 1.84 million subscribers for the show’s YouTube channel. He has been racking up awards and viewership by the bucket. In 2012, he in 2012 for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his performance in One Man, Two Guvnors. Corden co-created, co-wrote and starred in the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey (2007–2010), for which he won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Comedy Performance. He has appeared on numerous TV shows and movies, including the British television series “Fat Friends” from 2000 to 2005. In 2011, Corden had a recurring role in the popular BBC science fiction series “Doctor Who” as Craig Owens, the Doctor’s roommate. In addition, Corden hosted the Brit Awards, the biggest event in the British music industry, from 2010 to 2014. Corden starred opposite Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Emily Blunt in the Golden Globe Award nominated feature film “Into the Woods.” His additional film credits include “Begin Again,” with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo; “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,” with Jeff Bridges; “Gulliver’s Travels,” with Jack Black; and “The Three Musketeers,” with Orlando Bloom.

Anyway, enough about the man. Let’s get to the Tony Awards, which are being held on June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in the only place that makesLos Angels jealous, New York City. As you probably know, the Tony Awards are not given to the best people named Tony. The awards show honors excellence on the stage, and its producers are pleased as punch to have Corden hosting for the first time. Executive Producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner said that “Carpooling on Broadway will never be the same!” after Corden hosts the show. Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, raved about their Corden, saying, that he is the ideal choice to host the Tony Awards. The last time he was at the Tonys, he went home with one. We think he’ll have even more fun as host. This is going to be one unforgettable show.”
