Glitz, glamour and Broadway's best. You can see it all at the 2017 Tony Awards. Anyone can go to the Tonys this year. Well, anyone who buys their passes from VIP Award Show Tickets. Although it's not a requirement, we recommend these extra-special tickets for a certain kind of person. The kind of fan who loved Urinetown, who saw Pirates of Penzance more than twice and who makes it a point to see all of the off-beat off-Broadway shows. We think that these prized tickets are perfect for someone who likes to have fun in large quantities. Maybe you love New York too.
The 70th annual Tony Awards combine fantasy and reality. There are actors and sets, but the show is about the real-life performers, set dressers and writers who made the best shows of the season. Broadway greats who offer consistently awesome performances are honored alongside Hollywood actors who have leapt across the divide and landed on their feet. There are fresh-faced newcomers who have powered through the season with their emotive stage-stealing roles. Unless you've seen all of the hits and the hip underground shows, you never know who's going to win a Tony. You can be sure that they deserve it though.
This year, the committee will be sifting through a battery of deserving shows. There are colorful secondary categories like best costume, best scenery and best lighting designs. It wouldn't be a Broadway show without the bright lights, moody gels, dramatic scene changes and perfect costumes. These are the people who helped the top contenders get where they are, but we are also dying to know who will win the big categories--best musical, best play and best revival. Don't we all root for the underdog, the newcomer, the popular actor who's had their Broadway debut and the shows that we've seen and loved?
There are some pretty cool special awards at the Tonys too. There's the lifetime achievement award, and there's a special category that recognizes one regional theater that's doing things the right thing. Like Antoinette Perry, the co-founder of the American Theatre Wing and the namesake of the Tonys, the committee understands that theater isn't only about entertainment. It's about culture, creativity, storytelling, self-expression and having fun. The spirit of the theater really comes alive at the after-party when the lights go down. If you love Broadway, we have your 2017 Tony Awards tickets waiting. Just give us the cue.
